Harvest Time = Yumminess

Oct 16, 2014 | Family Life, Meal Time | 0 comments

Fall is my favorite time of year….that and Christmas…of course!
I love the Fall colors here in Utah. I love the trees, the cool brisk air, the fun coats & boots, I love the produce you can find for cheap or FREE!
We have found lots of apples for cheap & free at Grandmas. Grandma also had grapes, which are the best around. But this year she didn’t have tons, but she found me a friend of hers that had grapes I could come & pick for myself. SCORE!
I picked with a girlfriend & my little boyfriend here helped me take the grapes off the vine.
WHY take the grapes off the vine?
I have found that when left on the vine, it has an aftertaste much like store bought grape juice. Our grape juice is sweet & very tasty!
You’re welcome!
Here is the color difference between the two vines we picked from. The one on the right is my momma’s and the one on the left is her friends. Interesting huh?!
This is just the beginning of the canning. I took a day break to do some apples I got from my momma’s trees also.
I made a few varieties of applesauce.
Cinnamon Applesauce is a favorite among the children.
Goldensauce (or plain golden delicious applesauce)
Vanilla Pear Applesauce – BY FAR MY FAVORITE!
Vanilla Pear Applesauce:
#1) I used a 1:3 ratio of pears to apples. I sent the apples through first, then sent the pears through the food strainer
(My pears were so ripe, hardly any extras came out on the trash side. )
#2) Add 1 tsp of Vanilla for every BIG bowl of sauce.
#3) Mix well with whisk.
#4) Waterbath can or Eat
THEN BOOM…DELICIOUSNESS!
All of these are sugar free & nothing added except the cinnamon or vanilla. I LOVE making homemade. I use my applesauce as oil in cooking, snacking for kids, I make yummy desserts with them.
Goodness abounds during Harvest season.
What do you like to can?
