This is how we make our Christmas experience last longer. We save our 1 BIG Christmas gift for each kid from mom and dad until after the kids have opened all their other presents. This special gift from Jase and I comes with a fun challenge. We send the kids on a treasure hunt to find their big Christmas gift. (Santa brings a smaller gift for the kids and the parents give the one big gift at the very end with a treasure hunt).
Setting up the Big Gift Treasure Hunt
We write up Riddles and clues for each kid to find the gift. We give the first riddle to the youngest child (making sure it’s age appropriate so they can solve it). They don’t get any help from older kids and if it is too hard, mom & dad can give hints. But this makes it super fun to see them try to figure out the riddle of where the item is hidden. When the first child finds their present, they get to open it as the family watches. Then we move onto the next older child. So first we start with Cora, then Evee, then Wyatt, Shae, Rykel, Klai…and last parents. (occasionally we will have presents for mom & dad…that is if Mom gives Dad a big gift like this, or if Dad does one for mom).
Sometimes this fun treasure hunt lasts all day…which is why we love to do it. We love to prolong the fun of opening presents & most of the time, these presents bring the happy tears & the joyful screams. This is such a fun hunt, it has become one of our favorite (out of many) Christmas Traditions.
We love to travel and often learn about new traditions from other cultures. If we find one we love we will add it to our family traditions. Do you have a Christmas Tradition that you do with gifts?
