Aloha Now Moms, with the new year here and new year’s resolutions, the concept of how to raise self-starters has been on my mind a lot. Jase and I recorded a podcast on this subject with our friends That YouTub3 Family. You can listen to the podcast below or HERE. Below I will share our original podcast notes below with additional tips, and tools to raise self-starters!
How To Raise Self-starters Podcast
*Notes excerpt from our Podcast, “How to Raise a Self Starting Generation in Your Own Home” inserted below with additional tips and tricks to follow.
“We have owned and operated more than a dozen companies for almost 20 years. One thing has always stood out after all of the trial and error with our processes and the people involved with our businesses… Self-starters!
“After noticing this as the common denominator of the success of each of our companies, we decided to implement this into the lives of our children. We want our children to be able to do whatever they want to do.
“The only way that they can thrive and be successful is if they learn what makes them tick and motivates them to go after it! This is what we have tried to instill in our children.”
Tools to Raise Self-starters
We use our Mom Store or “Mommy Store” to encourage self-starting in our kids. So this system rewards our kids for chores, and daily tasks with points that they can use as currency to “buy” simple toys, treats, or special experiences.
This system works because it teaches responsibility, accountability, and provides positive reinforcement. You can find a more detailed explanation on the Mom Store from my blog post HERE.
Books that Help Raise Self-starters
This book, written by Sean Covey, is one of our family’s favorites. And it’s not just for teens, adults can benefit from the straightforwardness of the book’s contents!
I like to read and re-read this one with my younger kids because it teaches important principles of life success in story form. So this one is a MUST for every home that plans to raise happy, self-starting, well-rounded children.
This book is a must-read for every parent or teacher. We particularly like it because it’s great for homeschool and entrepreneurial life! The book is perfect because it explains the science behind the power of letting your kids lead take the lead in their own lives. And there’s just something about understanding the why behind things, backed with solid data.
